Presentation
The Amazon Flavours Project’s main goal is to promote the
diversity and the quality of fruits which are originally from the Amazon region,
aiming to widen the commercialization of Amazon products.
The region has got native and unique fruits. The different
flavours arouse curiosity and interest both in Brazil and abroad, gaining more
and more admirers.
Internationally speaking, the most recognized fruit from that
region is the açaí berry; however, there are around 120 native varieties and
many of them can be commercialized. Thus, the project also works towards
broadening the knowledge base on the potentiality of the region to offer unique
products.
Currently, 15 types of fruit are commercially produced and
processed in the Amazon Rainforest – amongst them, there are some native fruits
such as the açaí, the cupuaçu, the bacuri, the taperebá, and the camu-camu.
Nonetheless, more conventional fruits are also produced there, such as the
pineapple, the passion fruit, the orange, the acerola, and the soursop (also
called graviola).
Main actions
The Amazon Flavours Brazil Project, initiated in 2009, aims to
promote the exportation of products based on the Amazon fruits, and for that it
foresees a series of actions, such as:
- A website containing information on the Amazon region, native fruits,
nutrition facts, contact information of the Brazilian producing companies and of
the partners involved in the project;
- Merchandising actions in American websites, since America is the biggest açaí
consumer abroad;
- Product sampling for the distributors in Formula Indy races in Indianapolis
(Indiana – USA) on May 30th.
- Product marketing during the World Soccer Cup 2010 in South Africa, through
product sampling and distribution of samples.
